Goth Valentine's Day Gifts
If your sweetie has a dark side and won't be impressed by your hearts and flowers, there are plenty of goth Valentine's Day gifts that will be better received. Just back away from the roses and drop the generic heart box of candy. Those won't be appreciated by someone who looks beyond the mainstream and into the dark void beyond. Here's what will work better as gifts for your goth honey. They are not only great Valentine's Day gifts for goths, they work well as birthday presents and Christmas gifts.
Go Poe
If your sweetie is a goth, he or she probably loves the Poe. Hey, who doesn't? Poe was the original goth, a dark soul who had the power to make everyone else see his visions. The raven has always been a symbol of death, and through Poe it became a symbol of despair and mystery as well. The poem The Raven has inspired plenty of items that can be given as goth Valentine's gifts. T-shirts, hoodies, bags, wallets- there are now plenty of things available that feature Poe's dark raven.
For some, anything that features Poe's distinctive face is a personal and thoughtful gift. For others, a little bit of blood is required to make the styling complete. Both possibilities are out there, just waiting for a recipient who will appreciate them for all their deep madness.
Goth Candy
If you want to give candy for Valentine's Day, that's perfectly understandable. Candy is fun, it's sharable and it's always an expected gift for the holiday. But, stay away from those Whitman's Samplers and other generic, meaningless candies. Those are no gifts for goths. For your gothic guy or girl, there are plenty of goth candies on the market that make much better gifts.
When you think goth candy, think blood. Several candy brands have figured out the demand in the marketplace for candy that looks, and perhaps smells, like blood. Lollipops that look like blood are a popular goth candy, but there are others. There are "test tubes" that hold blood candy, etc. Before you make a candy mistake by buying something too mainstream, look into the dark candy possibilities out there and choose a gift that better fits the recipient.
The gift will be better appreciated and you'll show that you know your goth well. Because of the interest in vampires that has penetrated the mainstream, there has never been a better time for gothic candy, so take the opportunity to see what's available.
Goth Books for Valentine's Day
A good goth book is like nothing else- it 's dark, it's thoughtful and it lingers in the mind long after it's been read. There are many great books that grab the attention of goths, and those are perfect gifts for the holiday. Look for ones that are written by imaginative authors who write dark and engrossing tales. Buying a beautifully bound copy of Poe or Lovecraft is always received well by goths- and by anyone who appreciates imagination and works that stir the soul.
If your goth likes Stephen King, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton or another modern popular author of dark tales, there are many titles to choose from. There are also plenty of titles outside of the mainstream author pool that make great dark reading for a goth. Also look to the past for greats like the Brontes, Lovecraft and Mary Shelley. A good dark book, no matter what time period it comes from, is more than just entertainment. It seeps into your soul and stains with a new shade of darkness. Your goth will appreciate the new opportunity for a little extra darkness.
